Women in Business

Equality is not a women’s issue, it’s everyone’s

Finlaysons is widely recognised and respected for our active Women in Business forums fostering important professional, commercial and personal networks among professional and business women working in South Australia and beyond.

Finlaysons Women in Business paved new ground when it was launched in Adelaide in 1997. Its aim is to provide an inspiring and productive forum – both external and internal – for our female lawyers, clients and contacts in business and government to get to know each other better, explore business opportunities, discuss issues and ideas, and to have fun.

We do that through a range of functions, attracting leading Australian women such as Helen Lynch, Barbara Hardy AO, Lindy Powell QC, Amanda Vanstone, Blanche d’Alpuget, Marilynne Paspaley, Judy Potter, Jacqueline Bowden, Frances Nelson KC and the Honourable Robyn Layton AO QC who have delivered keynote addresses to diverse audiences. Our frequent gatherings provide further opportunities to share our experiences and to discuss a range of topical issues.

Our view is that by supporting talent, developing leadership and providing strong mentors we are able to contribute to initiatives to assist more women into senior roles.

Addressing the under-representation of women in senior positions and encouraging talented and experienced women to be more influential in business is an important aspect of doing business in our community. Finlaysons has a history of strong representation of women in its senior management and proudly has five female partners who play key roles in the firm. We also have a firm commitment to providing a flexible working environment to help staff combine rewarding family and professional lives.

Sport and Women in the Spotlight - Celebrating 25 years of Finlaysons' Women in Business

We were delighted to celebrate 25th years of Finlaysons’ Women in Business at The Gallery in September 2022.

To mark the occasion we were extremely privileged to hear from some of South Australia’s successful sports women – both on and off the field – including Frances Nelson KC, who herself has an incredible sporting life in horse racing,  Jodie Newton, Chief of Staff Cricket Australia; Jude Coleman, Indoor Cricket Legend and assistant coach of the Commonwealth Games Gold medal winning Women’s Cricket team and Georgia Bevan, inaugural Adelaide Crows AFLW player and now Performance Dietitian for the Adelaide Crows. Big thank you to Annoushka Scharnberg, Partner at Finlaysons, who hosted the evening spectacularly and added fabulous insights and value.
