Background

Tom is an Associate in Finlaysons’ Dispute Resolution and Litigation team. He has significant dispute resolution experience after working in the commercial dispute resolution and litigation team at Norman Waterhouse for 12 months and as a Judge’s Associate at the District Court of South Australia for 18 months.

Tom has represented local councils, large businesses and private sector parties in a range of disputes involving contract, construction, debt recovery, leasing, insurance, sports and insolvency law.

At the District Court, Tom worked alongside some of South Australia’s leading civil and criminal legal minds including his Honour Judge Burnett, his Honour Judge Slattery and her Honour Judge Davison. Tom assisted the Judges with various short notice matters, mediations, trials, judgments and criminal sentences.

Passionate about achieving timely and desirable outcomes for his clients, Tom prides himself on his civil litigation expertise, writing proficiency and ability to work with others. He is renowned for his ability to simplify complex legal issues and achieve practical solutions.

Experience

Tom has significant dispute resolution experience.  His key experience includes:

  • Acting for an insolvency firm to recover more than $100,000.00 in remuneration fees, inclusive of various legal costs.
  • Acting for local councils and large corporations in contractual commercial, construction and infrastructure disputes.
  • Acting for real estate agencies and private sector parties in commercial, retail and residential leasing disputes.
  • Assisting various large and small businesses in recovering debts from contracted parties.
  • Drafting civil and criminal judgments for Judges that have been delivered in the District Court of South Australia.
  • Representing a small corporation in an Australian Consumer Law dispute relating to guarantees as to the acceptable quality of goods supplied in trade or commerce, helping them achieve a highly beneficial settlement.
  • Representing strata corporations and private sector parties in fencing disputes.
