Jane is Partner at Finlaysons and is an integral member of the firm’s Resources team and Native Title and Aboriginal Heritage practice area. Jane’s dual law and geology qualifications and work experience enable her to fully understand both the legal and technical aspects of our resources clients’ requirements.

Background

Prior to joining Finlaysons in 2010, Jane worked as both a mine and exploration geologist for a number of ASX listed companies. Her experience and insight in resources and project work complements and enhances her legal expertise.

Jane continues to be heavily involved in the resources industry, currently acting as Chair of the Adelaide Branch of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, as well as serving on the South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy’s legislation and regulation committee.

Experience

With her significant experience and legal expertise across native title and aboriginal heritage, resources and energy, Jane continuously demonstrates exceptional skills and tremendous client service.

Jane’s background in both law and geology, provides her with invaluable insights into major projects in which she is involved.  This dual experience has enabled her to fully understand the technical, commercial and legal aspects of our clients’ projects.

Jane has particular expertise with providing native title and Aboriginal heritage advice, drafting and negotiating native title agreements including Indigenous Land Use Agreements, advising on and negotiating land access arrangements, and project approval pathways for resources and energy projects.

Jane’s regular clients include major companies within the resources and energy sectors. Jane has also acted as in-house counsel on a number of extended secondments for a mining company assisting with project approvals, land access documentation, and mining and construction contracts.
